Hanging Cup Pictures, founded by Rebecca Howland in 2007, is an independent production company committed to providing enlightening and compelling film projects to audiences interested in uncommon characters and stories.

Rebecca Howland is a producer, writer, director, editor, and cinematographer working in both fiction and documentary forms.

Maverick characters interest her most and is reflected through her work, which deals with a wide range of subjects from historic nonconformists to the political struggles of third-party candidates.

Anne Bonny

Her feature-length screenplay Mistress of the Seathe true story of Anne Bonny, a young, wealthy socialite suffocating in her gilded cage of 18th century Charleston who joins a band of rogues and turns to a life of crime – earned an honorable mention at the 2007 Visions Festival and was chosen for the prestigious second round at the 2007 Austin Film Festival.


Two of her documentaries are currently on the festival circuit. Winning Off the Tracka personal look at the people who rescue and adopt "retired" racing greyhounds from certain death – was an official selection of the 2007 Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival where the screening sold out!

The Bay is Your Oysterthe story of the struggle to revive the native oyster population in the Chesapeake Bay – aired on Maryland Public Television in 2007 and was also an official selection of the 2007 American Conservation Film Festival.


Rebecca is currently developing a television series about the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) of World War II.

Rebecca is based in Washington, D.C. where she is completing an M.F.A. in Film & Electronic Media at American University. She holds a B.A. in English Literature from Columbia University.
